GRAPHIC

TRANSLATION

WHAT IS IT?

The graphic translation project combines traditional design drawing practices with Adobe Illustrator pen tool practices to create a blended image.

how does it work?

We started my taking images of objects we thought could make for good logos; we took multiple different angles, trying to capture things like highlights and shadows to pull from the object.

How did you design it?

We took these images into Illustrator to begin ‘tracing’ over with the pen tool, using different types of stroke weight to accentuate different lines in the object, filling in certain areas to utilize both positive and negative space to create a more graphic image.

what did you learn?

I learned about utilizing stroke weight to accentuate lines in objects and logos, and how using images that have been posterized can help to pull those finer details out to put into a logo. All in all, this project was a great way to start out into making logos and utilizing sources to make one.

the result…

The end result is a clean, fully designed logo ready for application like in supermarkets, craft stores or other areas. We utilized some arrow lines, too, to show some motion in how our objects worked; like how the tape row pulls and cuts off.
